After a cartoon by Tintoretto. As usual, St. Nicholas carries a crozier and wears an alb and chasuble. The mitre usually worn by bishops is in the lower left of the mosaic. Legend had it that he was forbidden to wear a mitre or pallium after he struck an Arian during the Council of Nicea.

The artist has signed the work at the bottom with his name in Latin: ettor lochatellus fecit means "Ettore Locatello made this."
